Disconnected International Payments

International payments let you pay someone in a different currency straight from your account

You can send money to a person or a business in a currency other than the currency of your account. Before you confirm, you see the exchange rate, the amount that will leave your account, the amount the payee receives, and any fee.

The app accepts the payment straight away. Our payments team then processes it, so it will not show as completed immediately. Compliance checks can add time. You can follow the status in Transactions.

This option is available when international payments are enabled on your account. Please contact support to enable it for your account.

Create the payee

International payees are separate from payees in your account currency. Use an international payee only for this type of payment.

  • In the Payees & Accounts menu, select Other currencies: International:

  • Choose the already existing payee or add a new one:

  • Choose Multicurrency and the payment currency:

If the currency you need is not in the list, contact the Operations team. We will check whether we can add that currency.

  • Enter the payee’s details exactly as they appear on the invoice or on the payee’s bank document. The form changes depending on the currency. Fill in every required field, including the account holder, address, and bank details.

  • Save the payee:

If you cannot complete the form, contact the Operations team. If the payment is urgent, we can still arrange it for you.

Send the payment

  • Start a payment to the international payee.

  • Choose how to set the amount:

    • a fixed amount in the payee’s currency, if you need to pay an exact invoice amount (for example, 100 USD), or

    • a fixed amount in your account currency.

  • Check the quote. It shows how much will be taken from your account, how much the payee will receive, and the fee. The amount debited from your account includes the fee.

  • Add the payment reference, and the purpose and category if they are asked for.

  • Confirm the payment.

  • You will see a confirmation that the payment was accepted. The payment and the fee stay pending while the payment is processed.

You can open the payment from Transactions. You can also upload an invoice or other proof of payment from the confirmation screen.

If your account requires a second person to approve payments, the payment is sent for approval first. We process it after approval.

What happens next

Our payments team sends the funds to your payee. When that is done, the payment shows as completed in Transactions.

If anything in the quote or the payee details looks wrong, contact support before you confirm. If you have already confirmed and need to change something, contact support and include the payment reference.
